Summertime, Lent and the Gospel of John

We realize mid-summer might seem a bit early to be thinking about Lent, but we don’t want you to miss this faith formation opportunity for your church or diocese. Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John is a collaboration between the Brothers at the Society of Saint John the Evangelist and Virginia Theological Seminary. During this six-week Lenten program, participants are invited to draw close to the God revealed in and through Jesus by meditating on the words of a daily verse from the book of John.

For hundreds of years, Christians have found time and again that we meet Jesus not only in times of personal prayer but also in holy conversation with one another. The Center for the Ministry of Teaching (CMT) at Virginia Seminary has come alongside SSJE to create resources to facilitate and foster these holy conversations throughout Lent. These resources will help you or your church leadership create and facilitate many different types of small groups, such as teen, young adult, parish or older adults.

One of the resources offered is a beautifully printed Prayer Journal. This journal is a beautiful meditation on the presence of Jesus in our lives, and can be used as an individual prayer aid. [See an example]

If you place your bulk order before August 1, you can purchase these exquisitely designed journals for only the cost of printing. Click for complete information on the program or to place your bulk order (minimum 500).

If you are a member of a smaller parish or are interested in deepening your faith through this Lenten program individually or in a small group, you can get complete information here.

By learning from Jesus, his human friendships, and his teachings about the God he calls ‘Father,’ we will discover God as One who longs for deep intimacy with each of us. And we hope you’ll join us for this remarkable Lenten experience, Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of John.
