Week Five: Abide in Me

Prayer: God, you are so good. You give and keep life. Help us live in you, and let you live in us, so that we can be together and work together. Amen.

Discussion Questions for Dinner:

  • Jesus says, “Abide in me, as I abide in you.” (John 15:4) Abiding means to stay, or live with someone. What do you think Jesus means when he asks us to abide with him? How can we abide with Jesus?
  • What do you think it means when Jesus says Jesus abides in you? Do you notice Jesus living in you? Do you notice Jesus living in other people? How?
  • How can we make our selves a good place for Jesus to live?

Car Question: When did you notice God was with you today?

Activity: Abide with Me

Needed materials: paper, markers/crayons

Purpose: Encourage children to use their imagination about God, and where they can abide with God.

Talk to your child about what the word “abide” means. Explain that it means to live with someone. Who does your child abide with? What is it like to live with someone? Explain that Jesus abides with God, and Jesus wants us to abide with God, too. Invite your child to imagine a place where they could dwell with God, and to draw it. That place can be whatever they like.  When they are done, ask them questions about it, using questions like, “Could you tell me more about this?” or “Why is this here?”
